Alternate Locate Provider
Alternate Locate Provider (ALP) is an optional way to get locates: when an excavator files a ticket, they can choose the “Alternate Locator Option” and then hire a registered Alternate Locate Service Provider (ALSP) to perform the locate on behalf of participating utility owners.

Underground Utility& Locate Mapping
A pre-engineering locate is a detailed underground utility investigation performed before the design and planning phase of a construction or infrastructure project. Unlike standard “pre-dig” locates, which are intended for immediate excavation safety, a pre-engineering locate provides high-accuracy mapping data for engineers, designers, and planners to integrate into project drawings and utility coordination plans.
Key features include:
-
Full utility mapping of both public and private underground infrastructure
-
Use of electromagnetic locators and survey-grade GPS for precise positioning
-
Detailed CAD or GIS deliverables showing depth, alignment, and type of each utility
-
Coordination with utility owners for record verification and conflict identification
Pre-engineering locates are essential for:
-
Avoiding costly design changes during construction
-
Reducing utility conflicts and relocation needs
-
Meeting municipal or utility owner submission requirements for permits and approvals
By conducting a pre-engineering locate early in the project lifecycle, you provide designers with reliable underground information, enabling safer, more efficient, and more cost-effective construction outcomes.

Telus Utiltiy Locate
A TELUS utility locate is the process of identifying and marking the location of TELUS-owned underground telecommunications infrastructure, such as fibre optic cables, copper phone lines, and conduit routes before any digging or excavation work takes place.

Utility Strike Investigations
A utility strike investigation is the process of examining and documenting incidents where underground infrastructure such as gas lines, power cables, water mains, or telecommunications cables has been damaged during excavation or construction activities.
The purpose of a utility strike investigation is to:
-
Determine the cause of the strike (e.g., inaccurate locates, failure to follow safe digging procedures, or unmarked private utilities)
-
Assess the extent of the damage to the affected infrastructure
-
Gather evidence for reporting to utility owners, regulatory authorities, or insurance providers
-
Identify corrective actions to prevent future incidents
An investigation typically involves:
-
Site inspection
-
Collection of locate records, one-call tickets, and worksite documentation
-
Interviews with workers and contractors involved in the excavation
-
Detailed measurements, photos, and mapping of the strike location
-
A final written report outlining findings, contributing factors, and recommendations
Utility strike investigations are critical in Alberta for maintaining safety, protecting public infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and Damage Prevention best practices.

Private Utility Locates
A private utility locate is the process of finding and marking underground utilities that are privately owned and not covered by Alberta One-Call. While Alberta One-Call will arrange locates for member utilities such as Enmax, ATCO, or municipal water services, many properties also have buried infrastructure that these providers will not mark.
Examples of private utilities include:
-
Power lines from the property line to buildings or outbuildings
-
Water, sewer, or irrigation lines installed after original construction
-
Private communication cables or data networks
-
Gas lines to secondary structures, BBQs, or pool heaters
-
Lighting and security system cables
A private locate is essential before any excavation, trenching, fence installation, or landscaping work on private property.

Ground Disturbance Vehicle Integrated Locates
This advanced service provides precise underground utility location data that is compatible with modern machine control technology used in excavation and grading equipment. By integrating locate information directly into the operator’s in-cab system, crews gain real-time awareness of underground infrastructure during construction activities.
The result is a safer, more efficient worksite where utility conflicts are reduced, excavation accuracy is improved, and costly damage is avoided. This service is ideal for large civil projects, infrastructure development, and precision earthworks where both safety and accuracy are critical.

This is a brief demonstration of what happens within the ground disturbance equipment that is equipped to the right hard ware and our locates.
